Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the thirty-fourth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. I hope you had a Merry Christmas! Last month, I was at the BMI Songwriter’s Festival in Maui…of course it’s impossible to have a bad time in Maui. But I had the BEST time, and I’ll tell you all about it in this episode of Outsiders Radio. Among the legends there was the writer just named an ICON at the BMI Awards: Bob DiPiero, who wrote THIS monster hit for George Strait.
King George and Blue Clear Sky, written by this year’s BMI Icon Bob DiPiero. Bob was with us in Maui last month for the BMI Songwriters Festival, along with two previous Icon winners, two of my heroes: Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Let’s start with Kris. As my fans know, Kris Kristofferson is the reason I’m here. If it hadn’t been for him, I would have given up on my dream in…

Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the thirty-third episode of “Outsiders Radio”. As you hear this, I’m in Maui attending the BMI Songwriters Festival. We’ll talk more about that in a bit. First though I was VERY honored to lead off this year’s CMA Awards with Amazing Grace. I really think it set the tone for the night. We were respectful for those we lost in Las Vegas and other places this year.
Then my buddy Darius Rucker came out with those familiar notes with a song that topped the chart in 1994.
Great song, sung by a great guy…love Darius Rucker. Those of you who watched the CMA Awards got to see him sing it with Lady Antebellum & Keith Urban. Afterwards, Keith talked about that song.
"I thought it was so the right thing to do. To show solidarity among us as artists, but then put it out to the audience, it’s all one big country…
AIR DATE: OCTOBER 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the thirty-second episode of “Outsiders Radio”. There’s a lot to talk about today. A few weeks ago, country music fans were attacked by a gunman at a festival in Las Vegas. At last count, 59 people were killed, and over 500 injured. I performed at that festival on Friday, and some of the people at MY show were at also the show that fateful Sunday. I’m a songwriter, and I write about what I’m feeling. A few days later, I performed this song at the Grand Ole Opry.
In the weeks following the tragedy that happened in Las Vegas, a lot of country artists have stepped forward to speak about what happened. Jason Aldean was on stage in Las Vegas when the shooter attacked the fans. A week later, he appeared on Saturday Night Live, and said: “So many people are hurting. They’re all part of our family. We hurt for you…
AIR DATE: SEPTEMBER 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the thirty-first episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s been a busy month. I’ve been back on the road, doing a few selected shows around the country. They were different from the Holdin’ My Own shows. I had opening acts with me. While I’ve been on the road, I’ve been seeing a lot of the tragedy that hit places like Texas and Florida. Those hurricanes definitely affected my tour this month. We also had some sad news in the music world, losing Don Williams and Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry. So those are some of the topics we’ll talk about in this edition of Outsiders Radio.
That’s an appropriate way to kick off Outsiders Radio. It’s also the song that kicked our shows this month. I have to admit when the tour wrapped up in May, I was pretty worn out. But by September, I was ready for a few more. We…
AIR DATE: AUGUST 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the thirtieth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. I’ve had a couple months to recuperate from the Holdin’ My Own tour. Got to do some fishing, spend time with my boys and my wife, and anything else I could do that was NOT about being on the road. I feel recharged, re-energized, and ready for a few more shows. So that’s what I’m doing! I’m hittin’ the road for my final shows of 2017. It all begins Labor Day weekend in Stateline NV.
Feels good to hear those two songs again. I’m Eric Church warmin’ up the bus, and getting’ ready to hit the road for a few more shows in September. Joining me for the first two shows Labor Day weekend is a young artist who’s received a lot of attention named Margo Price. She’s been a fixture in Nashville for a long time, performing for a while with Sturgill Simpson . Her debut…

Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the twenty-ninth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. Tonight, it’s Fan’s Choice. We ended our Holdin’ My Own Tour with two sold-out shows in Nashville. That night, we sent our radio team out to speak with some fans at the show, and we got THEM to introduce THEIR favorites. So let’s get started.
"My name is John I’m from St. Louis, I’ve been a Eric Church fan for 8 years, my favorite Church song is Drink a Little Drink. It’s self-explanatory. My favorite moment at a Church concert is drinkin’ and havin’ a good ass time. This is gonna be the best one right here, this meet & greet, damn."
Obviously some smokin’ and drinkin’ going on at my shows. Here’s another one.
"I’m Meghan from St. Louis, I’ve been a Church fan for five years, my favorite Church song is Drink In My Hand. My favorite moment is right now, getting to…
AIR DATE: JUNE 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the twenty-eighth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s been a few weeks since the final shows of the Holdin’ My Own Tour. We wrapped it up with two sold-out nights in Nashville. The first night broke an attendance record, and then on the second night, we broke THAT record. The last night was possibly the loudest night of the entire tour. Several times, I had to just stop and take it all in. It was the most beautiful sound I could ever hear. Now a lot of people may wonder what I do after a big tour like that. Maybe THIS song will give you a hint.
That sums it up right there…I’ll be spending the next few months on the Livin’ Part of Life. I’m Eric Church and this is Outsiders Radio. We’re looking back at the final two nights of the Holdin’ My Own Tour…a couple of sold-out shows in Nashville. From MY…
AIR DATE: MAY 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the twenty-seventh episode of “Outsiders Radio”. We just wrapped up the Holdin’ My Own Tour with two shows in Nashville. Over 60 cities, no opening act, just me and the band for two sets with an intermission. I said when we started that I did it because I could. The fans made it possible. You loved these songs on my albums, and you wanted to experience them live. So that’s what we did.
We started the shows with a song called Hallelujah, written by Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, who died last year. A lot of artists have recorded it, including John Cale and Jeff Buckley. Jeff’s version came out ten years ago, which was ten years after he died in a drowning accident in 1997. That’s the version I use every night, with just a spotlight on a mic.
The late Jeff Buckley and Hallelujah. That’s how we’ve…
AIR DATE: APRIL 2017
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the twenty-sixth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s the end of April, so we’re about three-quarters of the way through the Holdin’ My Own Tour. I must admit, it’s been incredible to have the chance to play 38 to 39 songs every night. Each show has been special, and when I hear the sound of the fans, it reinvigorates me. I hope if you’re listening right now, that you’ve been to a show this year.
With that in mind, let’s get things started with some live music. This is from a special edition of my Caught In The Act album, just out last week for Record Store Day. You can only buy it at your local indie record store. Here’s the one that started it all: How ‘Bout You.
That one’s moved a little further in the setlist than it used to be. How ‘Bout You, on Outsiders Radio. April has been a great month for…
AIR DATE: AUGUST 2016
Hey, it’s Eric Church back for the nineteenth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s August and I just returned from playing two of the most special shows of my life. I got to perform 2 nights (mostly…) by myself at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, just outside of Denver. What a place. If you don’t know about this place, check it out. It is an incredible natural Amphitheatre carved out of the red rock. It is difficult to explain this place, but if you had the opportunity to be there, you know what I mean. If you haven’t, put it on your list. It is a special place. So, what I thought I would do with this show is dedicate it to this venue and play some songs by artists that have shared this place with their fans. The first show there was in May 1906… a 25-piece brass band… and, well… I couldn’t scrape that performance up, so I‘m going to…
AIR DATE: JULY 2016
Hey everybody, it’s Eric Church back for the eighteenth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s July and in Nashville, well, like everywhere, it’s HOT. I mean hot as in temperature, hot as in the opinions swirling around politics, HOT as is the debate around where are we going as a country and as a world. I am no sage, and I am by no means a politician, but I am a musician, so I thought I’d play some tunes to celebrate the good things we’ve done and to remember where we came from, and maybe even make us think about where we’re headed. This train will roll on with or without us, I for one want to ride with open eyes…
“For What It’s Worth” 2:34 – Buffalo Springfield– Buffalo Springfield
“Revolution” 3:25 – The Beatles – The White Album
All right! This is Eric Church on Outsiders Radio. And that was two classics from the 1960’s… Buffalo Springfield’s “For…
AIR DATE: JUNE 2017
Hey, it’s Eric Church back for the seventeenth episode of “Outsiders Radio”. It’s June, it’s hot in Nashville, and it’s the month of CMA Music Fest and Bonnaroo. So I thought this time, this show, I’d play some tunes inspired by those events this month. Some incredible music happens all around this town and not always at the big stadium show. I was able be a part of a couple really cool things this year, and of course I heard about a couple more… so let’s get to it. Here’s a song from a new artist who I love. Her album came out this week, and she caught a good buzz playing around CMA Music fest this year with a lot of people. Check out Maren Morris….
“80’s Mercedes” 3:22 – Maren Morris– Hero
“Tools of The Trade” 4:05 – Charlie Worsham – Rubberband
That was “80’s Mercedes” by Maren Morris followed by Charlie Worsham singing “Tools of the Trade”. One…
